HW Info is shutting down after a while when minimized to tray

The option "Stop the task if it runs longer than ..." needs to be disabled. If it's enabled, Windows will kill/terminate the task after the specified runtime has been reached. And the task won't be restarted (unless there's another trigger set).

    Help please...!

Pretty sure that HWiNFO shows more details in the main window, somewhere under Drives. PS: Please choose a descriptive title next time. It's obvious that almost everyone is looking for help here. Regards Dalai

Constant "High" CPU core MHz reading - Important?

Higher CPU usage can directly cause higher clocks. In general, the more load processes put on the CPU the higher and more consistent the CPU frequency - up to a certain point of course. When there's less load on the CPU it will reduce the clocks. That's the (normal) behavior when using the...

Constant "High" CPU core MHz reading - Important?

My assumption was this: The High Performance power plan tells the CPU to not reduce clock speed (at all) - which can be seen in the second screenshot. Now I know that higher CPU frequency can also be caused by high(er) CPU usage. OTOH, ddDerelict said that the temperatures are not much...

Constant "High" CPU core MHz reading - Important?

Does that software change the (active) power plan to High Performance? Regards Dalai

Package C6 and Core C6 residency always at 0%

A current resolution of 15.6 milliseconds is normal. OK, it was just a thought, based on what happened to me. PS: USB Safely Remove is a third-party application (and service) that provides much more information and features than the regular Windows Safely Remove Hardware function. Regards Dalai

Package C6 and Core C6 residency always at 0%

Is it possible that the resolution of the system timer was somehow changed? It certainly has an influence on core voltages and power consumption, so I can imagine that it's also able to prevent the cores to enter C6 state. Anyway, use a tool like SysInternals ClockRes (CMD only) or Timer...

    HDD Health

Take a look at the drive's specs on the manufacturer's web site or manual or similar to see what they have to say about it. Generally, I think everyting below 50°C is fine for SATA SSDs - I don't have any experience or recommendations for M.2 drives though. Nothing to worry about. I would even...

    HDD Health

Yes, I do. I buy SSDs from Samsung (850/860 Evo/Pro) and Crucial (MX500 only so far). However, I don't necessarily stick with one brand just because I can. There are other factors to consider. For me that is TBW, warranty, IOPS (far more important than the sequential throughput), and price to...

Virtual MEM usage vs what's set in windows

Virtual memory is the sum of RAM and page file. Committed memory is a different thing entirely, memory that an application has requested from the OS, but that's not necessarily used completely by the application. An application might request 2 GiB of memory, but might use only 10% of that. The...

    HDD Health

I don't think anybody can reliably answer this question because it would require a statistical analysis of failure rates, RMA rates and so on - across all brands and vendors. Especially RMA rates is nothing the vendors are just willing to give to anybody. More or less. The German c't magazine...

    HDD Health

Almost 1,500 sectors have already had errors and the data stored in them has been relocated to spare sectors, which every drive has a limited number of. Another 93 sectors are pending such relocation, which will usually occur as soon as such a sector is written to again. And another 10 sectors...

Can HWiNFO be used to dignose a faulty PSU?

Maybe the graphics drivers were updates after your first attempt with Skyrim. But it's hard to tell for sure. You can check in Device Manager, open the graphics card's properties and switch to tab Events (not sure what it's called in English) and try to match the times shown there for any driver...

Can HWiNFO be used to dignose a faulty PSU?

Well, if you're going to change something, you shouldn't change anything else. Otherwise you won't know what change exactly solved the issue (if the issue goes away). If reinstalling the OS doesn't help, I'd swap components one by one. Regards Dalai

Can HWiNFO be used to dignose a faulty PSU?

According to your logs, the temperatures look fine. However, there's something odd about the FurMark log. It looks like you stopped the test after about 1.5 minutes - D3D usage, GPU temperatures, GPU voltage all drop after that to idle values. It's probably not enough time to trigger a crash. If...

Can HWiNFO be used to dignose a faulty PSU?

Yes, this is what I meant. Thanks. So it's just the pending sectors. It's a Seagate drive, isn't it? They tend to "collect" bad sectors over time. I recommend to closely watch the SMART values and if they increase, I'd replace the drive. You can check the serial number on the manufacturer's web...

Can HWiNFO be used to dignose a faulty PSU?

Can you provide a screenshot of the SMART attributes/values in the System Information window (not the Sensors window), please? You can also use CrystalDiskInfo for that. Pending sectors might be problematic, but they don't paint the whole picture. Regards Dalai

Can HWiNFO be used to dignose a faulty PSU?

Such a drive is primarily slow because it needs to read bad sectors multiple times, and it needs quite a while doing so. But since there are a lot of different kinds of "bad", it's certainly possible that it could cause an OS crash. Do you get any BSODs when the OS crashes? If so, what do they...

    Programmatically close HWINFO

With a scripting language like AutoIT or AutoHotkey, it's possible to close the (invisible) window with the caption/title "HWiNFO64 v<version_and_build_number>", e.g. "HWiNFO64 v6.28-4200" for the current stable version. I just checked in WinSpy++ if I can find the window and close it and it...

    CPU Temperatures different from SpeedFan

Well, the latest SpeedFan version is already four years old, so it's very likely it doesn't know (all details) about the new CPUs released since then. Regards Dalai
