Asmedia SATA drives disappear

I've saw a report of this exact problem elsewhere on the Web.

When I start HWiNFO64 on my Asus Maximus VI Hero motherboard, the two drives connected to the two Asmedia SATA ports disappear in Win 8.1. I have to reboot to get them back.

The problem does not happen if I set HWiNFO64 to "Disable Drive Scan", but, of course, then information on all of the drives is limited.

The Asmedia drivers are the latest available for Asus (2.0.8.0).

Is this a known problem? Is there any fix other than disabling scanning of the drives?

ASMedia drivers are known to cause some problems, but I have never seen such an issue.
If you attach the HWiNFO Debug File (of the run with Drive Scan enabled) I can try to look into that, but I'm not sure if I would be able to come up with a workaround that would fix this.
