Asus Formula VII - PCIe 4x slot connected to a PCIe 1x port !

I have just switched from an Asus Formula VI (Z87) to an Asus Formula VII (Z97) mobo. The main reason was to get a PCIe 4x slot connected to the chipset (Z97) and not to the processor like in the Formula VI case. After assembling everthing I was really surprised to see that the 4x PCIe slot was connected to a Z97 PCIe 1x port through an ASMedia ASM1187 switch. I have checked this using hwinfo64 4.44 2300. Is this due to a wrong interpretation of the PCIe mapping by hwinfo or is there any other explaination ?

Best regards

I think your interpretation is correct, but to be sure you should also check the parent PCIe port in the chipset for its capabilities.

Hi Martin,

Do you mean that hwinfo probably displays a wrong map of the Z97 PCIe bus ?

Hi Martin,

As you can see, the parent PCIe port seems to be 1x. Please see the attached file.
