I have an older motherboard Gigabyte 970a-d3p and it smells like a capacitor is gone bad but I see none blown. The caps in this are metal with no way for them to show they have gone bad. I do however see some readings on one of the chipsets I think is under a heatsink where the smell is coming from. And here are the super high readings. You can see there are 2 with the same part number. Northbridge and Southbridge or? My power supply I replaced with a Thermaltake 600 and that was ok for about 5 months but I think that could have caused the problem on my motherboard. The fan on the PSU hardly comes on and I just ordered a new PSU. From the fluctuating wattages and hot smell like a cap gone bad without doing anything on my computer, could it be the motherboard or PSU or both? The bottom chipset looks normal while the top one is all over the place.
