Our forum has been under many spamming attacks using various techniques that we fought very successfully.
But recently a new wave of attacks is ongoing and the same happens to many other forums around the world.
This time the attackers seem to be compromising existing user accounts who's credentials (username+password) have leaked in the past as part of various database hacks/breaches on other sites.
If your account credentials have leaked in the past and you used the same credentials on this forum, then it's quite likely that your account may become compromised here too and used to post SPAM.
If we detect such situation, we don't let the SPAM thru but we also won't submit the compromised account to SPAM databases. Instead we lock the account and request the user to reset his password.
So if you received a request to reset your password, it's highly likely that your account was compromised and your password is leaked.
We also strongly recommend all users to use additional authentication methods like two-factor authentication.
Note, that no account data has been leaked from this site. The leaked credentials come from other sites and can be a problem if the same credentials are re-used on this forum.
There are various sites where you can check whether your credentials were leaked (pwned).
