What is SMBUS? What am I missing by turning it off?

Let me explain a little. I built a new PC recently and everything is great but it had a problem restarting. When I would restart the PC would never come back up and the DRAM failure light would come on. A few days looking for answers led me to RGB/monitoring software being the issue, in my case it was L-connect 3 and hwinfo. If I run both at the same time, I get the restart bug; but I can run one or the other and restart with no issue. I was okay with just running one or the other but it was still bugging me as to why it was happening. Fast forward to today I was messing around with the hwinfo settings again to see if there was anything I hadn't tried yet and googling the names as I go and when I get to SMBUS I found this thread and as the guy says when he runs hwinfo and in his case icue shit happens, but disabling smbus helps. So I tried that and it works. From the thread it looks like its just RAM temp and LED monitoring, is that all I'm missing?

Follow up question, theres the SMBUS device exclusion which seems like I could potentially find a configuration that allows me to restart without issues and keep SMBUS on. Would this just be trial and error or is there some way I can tell which one to disable?

I understand now. I'll pass this along to MSI as more proof that they can fix it in the BIOS. Been messaging their support for the past week over this and they're just blaming software, but are otherwise very nice and responsive. I still don't know who's to blame but I'm pretty sure they can fix it now, I was before but even moreso now. And Lian Li support is the absolute worst they have not even responded to the issue other than to tell me they're closing my ticket. Appreciate the response, thanks Martin.

Lian-Li is aware of the problem and I discussed it with them. But the best solution would be if AMD would fix their firmware.
