I actually haven't rebooted yet since I uninstalled that asmedia driver. There was no prompt to reboot from windows so I didn't bother. I do however now have 2 devices listed under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and both are named as you say, standard SATA AHCI Controller so I assume one of those is...

I uninstalled the Asmedia driver via device manager as there was no option for me to roll back. I expected windows to then install its own driver but it didn't do anything. I told device manager to rescan for hardware changes but it still didn't install any microsoft driver. Not that it matters...

I also tried the Asmedia 3.1.9.0 sata driver and they didn't freeze my system, they just made 2 drives disappear like the 3.1.8.0 driver. I will try to roll back to a microsoft driver as suggested and see if drive scan works.

RE: Shared Memory Viewer "Failed to connect to HWiNFO" Are you sure you have the sensors enabled? Try right clicking on the HWiNFO icon in the notification area and click sensors. I'm not 100% sure but I think they aren't enabled by default. In the settings you might need to tick "Show sensors...

Well this gets stranger and stranger... After running hwinfo and 2 of my drives vanish as described above, my pc also wont reboot. I click restart, my monitor goes off then the system just hangs like that with the HDD LED constantly on and I have to hold down the power button to force a reboot...

While hwinfo now runs without freezing my pc, it does make 2 of my drives vanish when it starts. The drives were back after a reboot then as soon as hwinfo started they disappeared again.

I found another newer driver, version 3.1.8.0, installed it and now everything seems to be working fine with no freezes and drive scan enabled. :) Edit: Actually I've just noticed a couple of HDD's have now disappeared..

Bleh, froze again. Debug file included. I will try looking again to see if there is another newer driver than 3.1.7.0. If not I will just use it without drive scan.

After a bit of googling I found a newer version 3.1.7.0 from 20th nov and have installed that. I will try to enable drive scan again now and let you know if it works or not.

Checking the Asus site there is only one driver available for the asmedia sata controller from 11th november and it is the same one im currently using. :/

I disabled drive scan and it seems to be running fine now without freezing the system. Is that for HDD's?
