Nothing to worry about.
Run Cinebench R20 multicore for a 100% CPU load and then we can talk about results and readings. Idling or low/middle loads have absolutely nothing to say. The worring outcome would be a minimum way under 100%. Something like 70 or 60%, only during the 100% CPU load and nothing less than that. Still if you havent done any sketchy settings about CPU management in BIOS I wouldnt worry too much. The self protection of the CPU is still on (if the speed and voltage management are on auto in BIOS).

But its already been said here many many times and still users keep asking questions about it. You should also read first post (OP) or the #285 post.

On idle I have between 110%/120%, sometimes going as high as 140%.

On absolute torture testing that value goes down to min of 87%.

The average after some normal use (gaming, netflix etc) is about 110%.

All of this with no oc, precision boost is on for only 100mhz.

All cases of non full load does not matter, whatever the numbers are. Only 100% full load does. So the 87%. Now what that means you can refer to post #285. You can still read also the initial post and all others from the OP and the posts from author of HWiNFO “Martin”.

just made an account to share the behavior of my x570-e by Asus with a ryzen 3700x.
So with recent BIOS we have the option to change the cpu current telemetry, and a while ago i made some tests with bios 2407.

STOCK
  • PDR 90.9 % min
  • CPU PACKAGE POWER (SMU) 87.853W
  • CB20 4718 points
STOCK + PBO 300 / 230 / 230 scalar 2x

So i thought that +5000 should be the correct value to insert but after the last bios update (2606) something changed because +5000 put the PDR always above 100% during a CB20 run (almost a 10 %)
+4000 was as good as the +5000 in 2404 bios but for a couple of percentage point (~103%) so now i'm running a +3000 (min value 95.7%)

the power reporting efficiency doesn't look right to me.......
I ran R20 and under current isle, I witnessed 96.7%
the others stayed at 82.8% red, 1434.7%, and 332%
running newest bios version as of 8/23/2020

If under full load (100%) during R20 your max PPT reading was 114.4 Watt and your minimum PRD was 82.8%... mean that your board only reports the 82.8% of the true power draw of the CPU and this results to the following

Your true CPU max power draw was 20.8% more than the reported 114.4W.
82.8 + 20.8% = 100%
so...
114.4W + 20.8% = 138.2W

The R7 3800X has a PPT limit of 142W by design from AMD. So there is absolutely nothing to worry about.
Though it is posible, that if your CPU's temps go down (by better cooling or colder ambient), that the limit of 142W will be exceeded by a small(?) number. Again there is nothing to worry about IF your CPU is under auto settings in BIOS for the power/speed management. If you're static OCing (speed and voltage) then this is a whole different story.

Did you manually set speed and voltage or something?
The PRD is missing from the sensors (meaning you OCed) and some readings are off the charts (CPU PPT/EDC/TDC)
Look at the "Core+SoC Power (SVI2 TFN) max at 167W.
UNDO whatever OC you have NOW I suggest. 1.45~1.5V core voltage SVI2 TFN for 100% load is ridiculously high and you will damage your CPU if not already degrade it...
Dont mess with OC for ZEN2 CPU if you dont know what you're doing.

i never worried about it, but it seems mine (not under cinebench, just on the windows desktop) is pretty high...
x470 aorus ultra gaming bios ver : F51, 2700x, ddr4 3200 , corsair 650w power supply...
is there a way to solve this ? it's strange, under cinebench, i have only 103%

Delayed response, and by now you all should know what is what... if you did read anything out of this thread.

Any way, your reported PPT(the 88W) during 100% all core workload is about the 89% of the true CPU’s PowerDraw. This means that your true power draw is around 99W. It’s really nothing to worry about and I take it from your max CPU temps that everything is fine!

If you gave a read at least to the very first post of this thread you would know that anything other that a 100% all core workload is irrelevant to this PRD story... anything below 100% load is absolute 0 important.

If under 100% all core workload you are getting a PRD value over 100% (like 107%), it means that the true power draw of your CPU is less that it’s limit by AMD.

Yes of course I did... and I as I said, you cant really say anything without the CPU under 100% workload like the CB R20 multithread run. Only when the CPU is loaded 100% you can tell if the board is pushing it over the limits or not.

Let me show mine under light workloads:

It does not matter... under light workloads or even in gaming. Only 100% workload matters.

I would like people/users to understand what all this means, but most of them did not even take 10min to read the clear statements of the person(s) who brought this to light... Most of them just want an answer specifically for them. They didnt even understant what 90% PRD or 110% PRD mean and why these numbers only matter under 100% workload. All the info is in the first post of this thread.

This is how you must run the system, and then you can evaluate the PRD reading...

So... I have 91W PPT and 94% PRD.
This means that the motherboard reports only the 94%(91W) of the true total package power draw of the CPU.
How to find the true total power draw? You take the reported watts (91) and you divide them by 0.94 (94%).
Like this:
91 / 0.94 = 96.8

The true total power draw of my CPU is ~97W

Now show us yours...:)

Hi. Well my 3800x reports like 85-87% for power reporting deviation setting during cb20 full load. So it uses like 15% more power and I really don't care. But I noticed that my PPT limit only reaching like 100-105w during 100% cpu load. In Ryzen master all limits are set to default including 142w ppt. If I enable PBO and manually set PPT for whatever I want like 1000, It still only uses 100-105w and PBO basically doing nothing for me (same scores same tempts). Previously I had 3700x and it reached 88w PPT limit during full load, and with PPT limit set to 200 it reached like 110w PPT. So now I'm a little bit worried that my CPU cannot reach it default limit of 142w PPT. Motherboard is b550 Aorus master connected via 1 8pin cpu cable from rm750x (motherboard has 8+4 pin connectors, but I think 4 pin is not needed without EXTREME overclocking). The most worrying thing was that enabling PBO did nothing, not even rising load temperatures without any real difference( pretty normal behavior for 3700x)
3800x cb 20 scores ~5000 MT and 508-510 ST

No, not really...

Having a 70% PRD and a 120W PPT means that the 120W consumption is the 70% of the true power consumption.

100 / 70 = 1.42857

120W x 1.42857 = 171+W

Your CPU is drawing more than 170W during that test. 3900X normal PPT limit is 142W but the board is lying about it making the CPU thinks it's drawing only ~120W. These CPUs have a lot of "safety features" taking into account temp, voltages, speeds, current(A)... so it may draw 30W above its limit but this also means, it can.

If you dont like this, then see if there is a latest BIOS for the board. This could have been "fixed".
know that you will loose some all core performance if you return the CPU to its nominal PPT limits.
