Fan control

Hi.
I installed HWiNFO because the fan on my Asus laptop for some reason always ran on full speed.
I have now realised that the fan controlling thing is not supported on my motherboard so I can't control it manually but what's interesting is that when HWiNFO is running, the fan speed is decreased to the right level. When I exit the program the fan is going crazy again. Why is this happening? Please reply!

Which ASUS model do you have ?
Does HWiNFO display the fan speed ?
If you disable "EC Support" in HWiNFO, does the fan speed change still occur ?

It's really wierd. The fan stopped working properly after the PC was updated to Win. 8.1, before that everything was fine.
It's an R500 with a motherboard called K55DR. It does not monitor fan speeds, as far as I know. What's EC Support?

There was recently a similar issue with a DELL machine reported after swtching to Win 8.x. I suggest you contact DELL support, since this seems to be a BIOS/firmware problem.
