SOLVED !!! Problems after RAM upgrade! HELP!

Hi everyone!

I have upgraded my old (2009) Toshiba Satellite A665-s6080 laptop from 4GB (2x2) DDR3-1066/PC-3 8500 RAM to 8GB (2x4) DDR3-1333/PC-3 10600 RAM.

After doing so I could not boot computer. BIOS was doing fine, he was recognizing 8GB RAM, however, Windows 7 (x64) Home Premium would not boot.

After many attempts, I put old 4gb (2x2) RAM back and booted laptop. Then, I changed "Max Memory" setting by checking it in "Advanced Boot Options" and setting it to 4gb. It lowered "memory usable" to 2.92gb.

I put new 8gb (2x4) RAM back and it boots! But...then i realized that even though Windows recognizes 8gb the "usable memory" is still 2.92gb. I decided to change "Max Memory" setting. First unchecked it. Windows would not boot. Then repeat the process with putting old ram back to boot it and this time set MAX to 8gb. But again fail. Windows refuses to boot.

Factory reset of Windows and Update and Reset of BIOS, nothing helped.

both BIOS and Windows see and recognize new 8gb RAM. However, I am stuck with 4gb MAX memory and 2.92gb usable only...

Here is my CPU: Intel Core i3-370M @ 2400Mhz.

Here is my Motherboard model and chipset: Toshiba NWQAA, Intel HM55 (IbexPeak-M DH).

I also run both CPU-Z and HWiNFo64. Both of them see and recognize 8gb RAM (2x4).

Here is a screenshot I took from CPU-Z with my original 4gb (2x2) RAM.

And here is after upgrade to 8GB.

And this is also after upgrade but from HWiNFO64:

Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool says "no error detected".

Here is my Resource Monitor with new RAM inside.

RE: Problems after RAM upgrade! HELP!

This seems to be a Windows problem and Windows 7 Home Premium should support a maximum of 16GB.
So not sure what suggestion to make other than putting 8GB into the machine and try to install Windows clean.

Thanks for your answer, Martin. Next week I am going to install an official retail version of Windows 7 (x64) Ultimate.

Even though I fail to understand, how it will actually help me. I am just hoping that it will. But in case it does not, I still have to solve it somehow.

And I do not want to upgrade to Win 10 as it is more expensive and, moreover, I am afraid of driver incompatibility/lack as my laptop is 8 years old already.

RE: Problems after RAM upgrade! HELP!

I don't think it's really required to install the Ultimate version. Why not try to reinstall the current edition from scratch?

I did a Factory Reset. You think it would make any difference from normal cd/usb installation?

Yes, I think it might make difference.

I will be able to test the windows in 2-3 days when I get Windows 7 Ultimate.

For now trying to figure out if there are any issues not connected to the system. But cannot find any.

Ran Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool. It says "no errors detected".

And here is Resource Monitor, showing me 91% Memory usage with just Chrome (8tabs), snipping tool and resource monitor open....

SOLVED !!!

The problem was in density of RAM !!!

If you had originally LOW Density RAM (like the one below) with 16-chips (8 on each side) then buy the same LOW Density !!!

If you had originally HIGH Density RAM (like the one below) with 8-chips (4 on each side) then buy the same HIGH Density !!!
