CPU Temperatures different from SpeedFan

Hi there.

I have installed both HWiNFO and SpeedFan on my computer. These two apps give me different CPU temperature readings.

My computer is an HP Envy 13 (2019) with following specs:

  • Windows 10 Home
  • i7-10510U
  • 16 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce MX250
Left app is SpeedFan, right app is HWiNFO - screenshot taken at the same time.

In SpeedFan, Core 0,1,2,3 temperatures are 57, 57, 59, 58c, but HWiNFO shows 76, 75, 90, 87c. Same thing for SpeedFan's Temp1 and Temp2 - these 2 temperature readings (81c, 52c) are not in HWiNFO.

Why is this? Which CPU temperature reading should I trust?

Thanks!

I believe HWiNFO is right. You can check with another tool like CoreTemp to be sure.

Well, the latest SpeedFan version is already four years old, so it's very likely it doesn't know (all details) about the new CPUs released since then.
