HWINFO gpu speed result flashing + very weird computer behaviour.

Hello everybody,

I've been having some weird things happening with my computer. First and upmost I would like to find out if it's a normal thing that my GPU clockspeed is flashing. It shows a number, goes blank, back to a number, back blank and so on.

You can clearly notice that the GPU mhz speed is now blank.

The other weird stuff :

  • My screen flashes on and off from time to time, and it will all of a sudden stop with that behaviour, to do it again after a while. Especially if my computer has been "idle" for a while
    • I come back from doing something else, move my mouse to make the screen active again and it starts...
  • The screen flickers; some parts of my screen move for a milisecond to the left, back to the right again. It keeps doing that for a while. During, the screen goes off and on again like above. It stops again after a while.
  • When one of the above happens, and I try to type something in google, it types text on his own, sometimes it opens Office 365 (multiple login tabs at once)
    • I noticed that my computer keeps doing that when I hit the G1 key that you can program; however, I never programmed it as such. using icue to remove everything does not even help...
  • My computeri s pretty slow lately
  • When I leave my sound on, I can hear the "disconnected" and "connected" sounds regularly while it has these issues : the mouse / keyboard keep disconnecting... or the system won't even react. I can't type, but the light on my keyboard is on...

What I did / tried :

  • Did all updates
  • Installed the latest driver (october 2024)
  • I use a Display Port cable
    • I did put it in the second port on my GPU card : did not help
    • I replaced it with a HDMI cable : did not help
  • Malwarebytes : I found malware, quarantained: did not help

So the questions :

  1. Is my AMD card faulty ?
  2. Can a system re-install fix this ?
  3. Is the "flashing" result on gpu speed in hwinfo something to be worried about ?

I'm building a new computer with a new case, mobo, cpu and I'm planning to use this video card in that new system (AM5 system) - as you see, I'm using an AMD card on an INTEL system).

Filip

This sounds like a hardware techsupport issue. I don't think you're going to get much help here with this as this has nothing to do with HWinfo. Could be any number of causes. I'd blame either video card or motherboard for this.

The fastest way you can determine if the videocard is faulty is to install it on another system and check thoroughly. If you don't have access to another system, or a friend's system, you're going to have a difficult time with this. Big question is, what is the history of this system? How long have you been using it? Did it just recently begin happening? Is the video card freshly installed and it started happening instantly?

Do keep in mind that Ivy Bridge came out in 2013 and the 6700 XT came out in 2021. There could potentially be compatibility issues with using such an old motherboard with a more modern video card.
